Agony + Ecstasy is delighted to launch the ORIOL MASPONS IBIZA book, produced and edited by the gallery's founder, Emma Salahi, and in association with British publisher, IDEA.

The book is the most amazingly free, liberated, sun drenched, dressed up and undressed, beach / party / disco book in the world already! Oriol Maspons – now, sadly no longer with us – was one of the great Spanish photographers of the twentieth century. As per the Museu Nacional D’art De Catalunya, “Oriol Maspons played a crucial role in the renewal of photographic language in Spain in the 1950s and 1960s.” And, as per IDEA in this press release, “Oriol Maspons took hundreds and hundreds of the best early Ibiza photos you have ever seen.” Maspons worked in many fields: reportage, portraiture, fashion and advertising but, when he was not working, when he was, as he was, in Ibiza every summer from the late 1960s to late 1980s, he took pictures for pleasure. Of pleasure for pleasure. And – oh, wow – are they good! 

In tandem with the book, the gallery also represents the acclaimed Spanish photographer’s unpublished Ibiza archive with photographs carefully curated by Salahi, working closely with Maspons’ son, Alex. Retailed as exclusive, limited edition prints, the images span from the early 1950s to the late 1980s. 

The book was launched with a spectacular party at London’s Dover Street Market´s Rose Bakery with Phil Mison DJing and an after party at the Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA) with the first edition of the book sold out in just over a week receiving high praise in reviews from publications including The Guardian, DAZED, Diario de Ibiza, VOGUE FRANCE, PERFECT Magazine and LÓfficiel.

Shortly after, the book was launched on Sant Jordi Day (Spain’s National Book and Valentine´s Day) in Barcelona at Terranova Book Shop.
