Overview

Chemical X is a pseudonymous British contemporary artist whose work transforms the chemical catalysts of rave culture into striking art objects. A figure rooted in the worlds of design, music, and underground culture, he first made his mark in the early 1990s as the designer of the original logo for Ministry of Sound, the now-iconic London nightclub and record label that defined a generation of British rave culture.

His celebrated Ecstasy Collection transforms thousands of cast pills into intricate, luminous sculptures, simultaneously seductive and unsettling reflections on hedonism, consumerism, and the commodification of youth culture. This ongoing series has evolved through collaborations with artists including Cara Delevingne, Hayden Kays, and Schoony, expanding its dialogue between desire, fame, and the art of excess.

In Los Angeles, Chemical X turned his attention to inequality with Skid Rodeo Drive, a striking installation that juxtaposed luxury branding with the lived realities of the city’s houseless community. The project underscored his recurring fascination with contrasts: beauty and decay, glamour and exploitation, power and vulnerability.

Working across sculpture, installation, and digital media, including NFT collaborations, Chemical X continues to blur boundaries between art, activism, and spectacle, inviting viewers to confront the contradictions of contemporary culture head-on.
