HEATH KANE | LIFE IS NOT A FAIRYTALE
Original
Oil and Acrylic on Canvas
Edition of 10
Framed in Pink Wood
Dimensions: 45cm x 55.5cm
“The melancholy sombreness of some portraits bring with it the realisation that ordinary can be both a sobering reality and something to be celebrated. ”
— Heath Kane
In contrast to Portrait of Heroes, Life is not a Fairytale explores the sombreness of some painted portraits. Instead of the grandeur of the master painted portraits from Portrait of Heroes, the artists captured a true glimpse into their subjects’ lives - showing just how ordinary and melancholy they may have been. In a world that is obsessed with living a perfect life, perhaps we should view ordinary not as a sobering reality but as something to be celebrated. The upside of social media is that it allows us to puncture the facades that the rich and famous create, far quicker than before. In a world where you are made to feel like you need to be extra-ordinary, we need to see the beauty in the ordinary too.
